Whilst seemingly the entire EV world has been going pretty crazy over the last few months, BMW have remained comparatively quite – keeping their Bavarian powder pretty dry; until now……
The German giant has revealed the brand new i4 as it’s first all-electric Gran Coupé; the BMW i4 combines next-level performance with modern comforts to deliver a truly outstanding driving experience.
Equipped with fifth-generation BMW eDrive technology, the i4 eDrive40 offers up to 365 miles in range. Add to this the spacious interior, and the new BMW i4, which is arriving in late 2021, quickly becomes the perfect companion for any journey. The Gran Coupe goes on sale in November and with prices starting at £51,905, the four door saloon promises to give a greater driving pleasure compared with ICE vehicles.
The brand will also be offering the i4 M50 alongside the eDrive 40. The M50 will hurtle from 0-60mph in less than 3.9 seconds and prices will start from £63,905. The i4 M50 can’t match the i4 eDrive 40’s range, but it’ll still manage up to 316 miles on a full charge (WLTP.)
The i4 will go on sale alongside the i3 electric hatchback, new iX3 mid-sized SUV and iX flagship in BMW’s expanding electric line-up. By 2023, the firm will have 12 pure EVs on sale worldwide, with an electric option available in 90% of its current market segments.
So how does it measure up when it comes to charging?
If you are looking to charge your i4 at home through your wall box (7.4kW) you are looking at around a 2 hour waiting time for 62 miles of range. Conversely, high-power charging stations will boost the battery to the same 62 miles of range in about 4 minutes!
The aerodynamic silhouette of the BMW i4 is an extension of the classic BMW Coupe. It features a long wheel base with short over hangs and a flowing roofline that gives it an unmistakably sporty yet elegant impression. Its size is similar to that of the Tesla Model 3….could this be direct competition?
The interior is very sleek, boasting a curved display control panel to create a modern day driver orientated cockpit. As a five seater, the BMW i4 offers generous headroom, extra legroom and enough space for all passengers to travel comfortably.
So, in short, BMW are again upping their game and riding the EV wave. The loyalty that the brand generates will ensure that they’re at the forefront of the EV movement. The design and build quality will surely ensure that it stays there.
We can’t wait to see them on the road!
