2022 is literally looking brighter for Porsche, especially when it comes to colour options available for their flagship EV, the Taycan. The Stuttgart-based manufacturer has confirmed that it will add 65 new colours to the current 17 in it’s range, which presently includes classics like Acid Green, Rubystar (pictured), and Riviera Blue. And if none of the 82 colours float your boat, Porsche says it will custom paint the Taycan to almost any colour imaginable. 

Beyond the new colour palette, the German giant has also confirmed some significant technology improvements, too.

Porsche won’t classify the refreshed Taycan as a new model per se, however they’re promising improved real world range thanks to numerous technological advances; the stand out being charge rate.

An official Porsche statement reads as follows, “The thermal management and charging functions have also been further improved as part of a series of technological developments to further optimize the Taycan’s drivetrain. With the Turbo Charging Planner, the high-voltage battery can now be heated to a slightly higher temperature than before. This means that fast charging is possible earlier and at a higher charge level, further reducing the time it takes to charge. In addition, the excess heat from the electrical components is used to an even greater extent for battery temperature regulation”.

This means that the Taycan, which has previously achieved a top charge rate of 270 kW, could be achieving up to 350 kW, if these improvements work as billed.

The revised Taycan will also feature remote control parking, through an optional Remote Park Assist system. This allows the user to park the Taycan using a smartphone app, without a driver on board. The car can also park in a perpendicular space, or a garage, automatically, by using ultrasonic sensors and exterior cameras.

As we know only too well, the EV manufacture world places great stock in technological one-upmanship – “where’s our edge over the South Koreans?”, “can the Californians do this?”. With these improvements, Porsche are doing their level-best to get some kind of toe-hold on the north face of the EV peak.

As yet, Porsche hasn’t revealed price details for the enhancements, however we don’t expect any major changes to it’s existing pricing structure, which currently begins from £72,850. The upgraded models are expected to arrive in showrooms by the end of the year.
